This 2019-2020 season, FIRST RISE SM , powered by Star Wars: Force for Change , is setting out to inspire citizens of the galaxy to work together, strengthening and protecting the Force that binds us and creating a place where collaboration and collective wisdom can elevate new ideas and foster growth. K-12 STEM PROGRAMS FIRST ® LEGO ® League Jr. Captures young curiosity by exploring real-world scientific challenges, learning teamwork, and working with motorized LEGO ® elements Grades K-4 Learn More It’s never too early to discover STEM Through exploratory research, hands-on construction, teamwork, imagination, and fun with LEGO elements, FIRST ® LEGO ® League Jr. challenges teams of up to six kids to explore a real-world scientific concept, then build a motorized model and develop a Show Me Poster to illustrate their journey of discovery. Throughout the season, adult coaches provide guidance and inspiration. Grades K-4; ages 6-10 Let's Go FIRST ® LEGO ® League Elementary and middle school-aged students research a real-world engineering challenge, develop a solution, and compete with LEGO-based robots of their own design Grades 4-8 Learn More Imaginative thinking and teamwork build tomorrow’s innovators With adult Coaches to guide them, FIRST ® LEGO ® League teams (up to 10 members) apply science, engineering, and math concepts, plus a big dose of imagination, to develop solutions to real-world challenges. They also design, build, and program LEGO MINDSTORMS ® -based robots to perform autonomous “missions” on a playing field. Along the way, they develop critical thinking, team-building, and presentation skills. Grades 4-8; ages 9-14 (ages vary by country) Let's Go FIRST ® TECH CHALLENGE Teams of middle and high school-aged students are challenged to design, build, and program a robot to play a floor game against other teams’ creations Grades 7-12 Learn More It’s way more than building robots Following a sports model, FIRST ® Tech Challenge teams (10+ members) design, build, program, and operate robots of their own design to play a floor game in an alliance format. Guided by adult coaches and mentors, students develop STEM skills and practice engineering principles, while realizing the value of hard work, innovation, and sharing ideas. Participants have access to tens of millions of dollars in college scholarships. Grades 7-12; ages 12-18 Let's Go FIRST ® Robotics Competition High school-aged teams compete head to head on a special playing field with robots they have designed, built, and programmed Grades 9-12 Learn More The excitement of sport, the rigors of science Under strict rules, limited resources, and the guidance of volunteer mentors including engineers, teachers, business professionals, parents, alumni and more, teams of 25+ students build and program robots to perform challenging tasks against a field of competitors. They must also raise funds, design a team "brand," hone teamwork skills, and perform community outreach. In addition to learning valuable STEM and life skills, participants are eligible to apply for $80 million in college scholarships. Grades 9-12; ages 14-18 Let's Go FIRST LEGO League Jr. Give your child the opportunity to feed their curiosity about science, develop teamwork skills, and have fun building with LEGO ® elements. Over 88% have more interest in school, 90% have more interest in taking a challenging math or science course, and 90% are more interested in attending college.
